Blind date with a Book

Checking out their hot edges ;)

You're thinking what???

What date? With a book? What?!!!

Well, this is simply a fantastic idea which I discovered in Newtown
while browsing 'Elizabeth's Bookstore'.

"The King St store started wrapping staff-selected books in brown paper, handwriting a few key words on the front and calling them Blind Date Books last April.
Customers can buy the book either for themselves or as a present and store manager Melanie Prosser said it encouraged people to move outside their literary comfort zone.
“People have such a hard time choosing what to read and you do tend to judge a book on what you see, so this takes all the choice out of it,” she said."
-Daily Telegraph

Isn't it fantastic? As a book fanatic, going on a date with one sounds perfect!

Naturally I bought one.
Out of all of them this was the only one in the Sci-Fi genre,
or at least lacking soppy Romance descriptions... Hahaha

I got very lucky with this one, it's a classic Horror/Sci-Fi which is a 1961 Penguin.
'The Midwich Cuckoos' by John Wyndham, also known as the movie
'The Village of the Damned'

Have a look at the full article about this wonderful dating experience:

Have you guys ever bought these books?
If you were to do a blind book date, which book would it be with?

Tamagotchi Update #2

Finn is now a toddler I believe, and he's rocking a pretty neat haircut in my opinion.

I look forward to checking out some new games with him.

Homeware Haul #1

Myer is having a sale, particularly in various pleasant scented things and bath/shower/skin care!!

It's fantastic because I adore scented products, particularly brands like MOR.

I bought the MOR Hand and Body Wash in the 'Candied Vanilla and Almond' scent.

And oh my, does it smell yummy! It makes for a double item (which is perfect if you want to save money on an expensive scented product).

I love using it as a handwash, it leaves me licking and smelling my hands (because they are like candy now).

In addition, I bought the 'Scented Space Fragrance Infuser' in Vanilla Bean. This is being used in my bathroom now, mainly because this is an area of the house that you want to smell nice.

Yes, you know what I mean.

I highly recommend both products, the diffuser is a great alternative to candles, and like I mentioned, the hand and body wash is multi-function!

Make sure you check out the rest of their products.

Hunger Games paraphernalia!

Guess who went around Newtown and found this pendant??

It's an adorable little store called Kaboodle Designs which tends to sell many types of creative and funky little pendants (including Doctor Who as well!)

I hope you like the Hunger Games series, because I am looking forward to the finale very much!
(Do read the books too though)

Now I've got my fan jewellery!
I'm all set!

Tamagotchi Update:

Finn has made a tiny, digital poop.

It's ok. I'm a good owner :)

I've cleaned it all up.

Tamagotchi Rediscovered!

I have found this little treasure while rooting around my room (in an attempt to find my Polaroid camera)

I forgot how awesome this is!!!! Hahaha

The little creature plays games, lets me feed it and of course, makes me clean up its little poops.

Do you guys remember owning one of these?

Post a photo of your old Tamagotchi!

I will be updating my little pet 'Finn' as he grows.

I realised I have not put up a blog about my Guinea Pigs!

These right here are my two guinea pigs.

I can't believe I haven't posted about them yet!

Both are pretty tubby because they're getting older and lazier. But that only makes me love them more.

The one on the left is Pumpernickel (like a loaf of bread huh?) and the one on the right is Zazzy, aptly named after Zazzles the cat on The Big Bang Theory.

Enjoy!

There'll be more of them soon.

Husky - Going on tour and releasing new songs

Ahoy there!

Melbourne band 'Husky' is going to be releasing a new album super soon,
and I will be the first one there at their Sydney concert!

It's folk inspired, but no where near as annoying as folk music can be..
There's a great classic pop vibe to it, with a bit of alternative thrown in.

Listen here, and DEFINITELY try to find a concert in your area (coming in July 2014):

Interview Outfit (For Winter)

Here's a great combination to try for an interview!

You don't want to look too informal (otherwise they won't take you seriously),
however you do still want to keep it simple and very individual.

That's why I've added a burst of red to brighten the otherwise black/white combo.
In addition, the scarf makes for a great accessory.

Ubik - A book to fall into

Have I mentioned I like Science Fiction?

Perhaps... But here is an actual piece of Science Fiction 'perfection':

The novel 'Ubik' by well known Sci-Fi writer Phillip K. Dick is an immersive and utterly mind blowing creation of the future, which, like many of his novels, causes us to ask:
What is reality?

I love how it messes with us throughout..
It's superbly written, with a bit of sex, romance, action, horror and lots of great humour.

Personally, it gives me great joy to look at the cover too, haha. Pretty colours eh?

"If you liked "Inception" or "The Matrix" then you'd probably like this. It's kind of a similar concept of people trapped in essentially a dreamworld where things can change around them in an instant. Of course there's a lot less kung-fu and car chases than those movies. - LibraryThing Review"

"Fast moving novel that explores solipsism, perhaps, in a mind-bending manner. Dick creates a world overflowing with novelties, then shifts the entire setting of the novel, twisting the plot and characters in a manner that reminded me of the creative freedom of the novel. There's a strong whiff of meta-fictive play about the novel, but none of the pretentiousness that so often accompanies it. - Michael.McGuire"

"An extraordinarily prescient book, written over 40 years ago, yet describing a world of instant communication and online commercevery like the present. The story flips you through time and life/death so many times, you don't know whether you are in the past, or present, alive, half alive or dead.  - Greatrakes"

Check it out here on Google Books for the full description and reviews:

Game of Thrones - Season finale (Yes, I finally got around to it)

Well.. That had about the most viewers ever... No, really!

I was overwhelmed with the amount that actually happened!

I'm not going to pop in any spoilers though ;)

I just wanted to let you know.. it was amazing, and if you haven't seen it (if you do what I tend to do at season finales, which is avoid them and pretend the season will continue indefinitely, then you will regret it)

Those of you who don't watch it ought to. Really.
I know you've heard your nerdy friends ranting on about it, and you know it's worth watching when even the non-nerds start to persist!!

The characters are fantastic and its suits many genres. It's not quite as annoying as most battle scene/fighting/kings and queens series you may have seen before.

Give it one episode, and you're hooked!

Now please excuse me... I need to go and buy the books. I'm not waiting another year!

Mish-Mash

Hello there. I'm an Australian. We live way below, down there, where no one can see us.

This makes getting around rather hard, so I tend to just stay here.

Oh, and did I mention? I live in Sydney.

I've heard people saying that Melbourne is the best city in Australia, but I've never been there and wouldn't know. I think we've got it pretty good right here.

Our summers are wonderfully warm and pleasant, and the winters are cold enough so that you can enjoy wearing a really good coat.

Like most coastal cities, we're right next to the beach... this bit is one of my favourites.
I can't imagine living landlocked! Beach-going is fantastically relaxing.

The food and clothes here are a tad expensive, but us students know how to find the affordable stuff. It's a valuable skill.
For this reason I suggest being a student at least once in your life.

I am studying a Bachelor degree in Journalism, so I suppose this blog is also life practice.
Excellent.

I want to record all my understanding of the world around us, my experiences and interests, events, music, fashion, photography and advice.

Everyone is doing it nowadays, so why not?

Why can't I get this song out of my head?

Isn't it fantastic when you fall in love with a new song?

You have to keep pressing repeat, wondering whether or not you'll overdose and then never be able to stand it again.

I found this song while flicking through tv channels and stumbled on the music video.

'Paranoia, Ghosts and Other Sounds' by Australian artist 'Safia' is exactly what it says.

An amalgamation of trippy sounds, almost reggae-ish/alternative singing and beats that flow into a song that makes you want to wave your arms around and close your eyes with joy.

WATCH THE VIDEO
HEAR THE SOUND
FALL IN LOVE

I am loving it to death.

And am so very worried that I will listen to it too much...

ADVENTURE TIME

Finn the human at an Urban Outfitters in London (from my trip!)

If you haven't seen it, you've probably heard of it.

It's great. I know... It's a kids show. Let me just make this clear.

No. No it isn't. There are many many many mature references, sexual jokes and rather traumatic moments. I suggest watching this if you are over 18.

It's got it all, action, adventure, the romance and the comedy and horror.
For these reasons, it proves to be very witty and entertaining.

Also, each episode is no longer than 20 mins, making it great for a short entertainment break.

It follows the crazy adventures of the two main characters who live in a world many years after the devastating nuclear war that destroyed the earth and all humans except a few. 'The Mushroom Wars' intrigues me because of the complexity of the story line.

In addition, we learn more about each character who holds a dark past, and are constantly asked questions beyond insanity.

It's awesome.
